Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks/226g/8 ounces) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups (360g/12.7 ounces) all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1 cup (200g/7 ounces) granulated sugar

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar using an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
  2. Gradually add the flour to the butter-sugar mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined. Be careful not to overmix!
  3. Wrap the dough tightly in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
  5. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to about ¼ inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes.
  6. Place the cookies onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving a little space between each cookie. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  7. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Decorate as desired with frosting, sprinkles, or icing.
