Ingredients:
- 1 cup (2 sticks/226g/8 ounces) unsalted butter, softened
- 3 cups (360g/12.7 ounces) all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
- 1 cup (200g/7 ounces) granulated sugar
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar using an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
- Gradually add the flour to the butter-sugar mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined. Be careful not to overmix!
- Wrap the dough tightly in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to about ¼ inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes.
- Place the cookies onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving a little space between each cookie. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Decorate as desired with frosting, sprinkles, or icing.
