Ingredients:

  • 6 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix), peeled, cored, and sliced (approximately 900g / 2 lbs)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (25g)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (50g)
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar (50g)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (15ml)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces (30g)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (125g)
  • 1 cup rolled oats (90g)
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar (100g)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes (113g)

  2. In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss to coat. Dot with butter pieces.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Cut in cold butter using a pastry blender or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Pour the apple filling into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the crisp topping evenly over the apples.
  5. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling.
  6. Let cool slightly before serving.
