Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (480 ml) water
  • 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk (or dairy-free alternative)
  • 2 tablespoons (15 g) loose black tea (or 2 tea bags)
  • 2 tablespoons (30 g) sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 4 green cardamom pods, crushed
  • 1-inch piece of fresh ginger, sliced or grated
  • 1 stick of cinnamon (or ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon)
  • 4 whole cloves (optional)
  • A pinch of black pepper (adjust to taste)

Instructions:

  1. In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil over medium heat.
  2. Add the crushed cardamom pods, sliced ginger, cinnamon stick, cloves, and black pepper to the boiling water.
  3. Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to infuse fully.
  4. Stir in the loose black tea or tea bags. Continue to simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
  5. Pour in 1 cup of whole milk (or dairy-free alternative) and add sugar. Stir to combine and bring back to a gentle boil.
  6. Remove from heat and strain the tea into cups using a fine sieve or tea infuser.
  7. Enjoy your Masala Chai hot, garnished with a sprinkle of cinnamon if desired.
