Ingredients:
- 2 cups (480 ml) water
- 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk (or dairy-free alternative)
- 2 tablespoons (15 g) loose black tea (or 2 tea bags)
- 2 tablespoons (30 g) sugar (adjust to taste)
- 4 green cardamom pods, crushed
- 1-inch piece of fresh ginger, sliced or grated
- 1 stick of cinnamon (or ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon)
- 4 whole cloves (optional)
- A pinch of black pepper (adjust to taste)
Instructions:
- In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil over medium heat.
- Add the crushed cardamom pods, sliced ginger, cinnamon stick, cloves, and black pepper to the boiling water.
- Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to infuse fully.
- Stir in the loose black tea or tea bags. Continue to simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
- Pour in 1 cup of whole milk (or dairy-free alternative) and add sugar. Stir to combine and bring back to a gentle boil.
- Remove from heat and strain the tea into cups using a fine sieve or tea infuser.
- Enjoy your Masala Chai hot, garnished with a sprinkle of cinnamon if desired.
