Ingredients:
- 1 cup (240 ml) unsweetened applesauce
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) honey (or agave syrup)
- 1/2 cup (115 g) unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup (125 g) all-purpose flour (can substitute with whole wheat flour)
- 1/3 cup (40 g) cocoa powder (unsweetened)
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (90 g) chocolate chips (optional, can be dark or milk chocolate)
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease the baking pan or line with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine applesauce, honey, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla. Whisk until smooth and well blended.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually fold the dry mixture into the wet mixture until just combined.
- Gently fold in the chocolate chips, if using.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Allow brownies to cool in the pan for at least 20 minutes before cutting into squares.
