Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (250g)
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar (300g)
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder (65g)
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk (240ml)
  • ½ cup vegetable oil (120ml)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Zest of 1 large orange
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (120g)
  • 2-3 tablespoons freshly squeezed orange juice
  • Zest of 1 orange (to garnish, optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour the cake pans, or line with parchment paper.
  3. In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, oil, eggs, vanilla extract, and orange zest.
  5. Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, mixing until well combined.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  7. Bake for about 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the cakes to cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.
  9. In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, orange juice, and optional zest until smooth.
  10. Once cakes are completely cooled, drizzle the orange glaze over the top.
