Ingredients:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • Pinch of salt (for frosting)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour both cake pans; line the bottom with parchment paper.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 5 minutes).
  5. Beat in eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated.
  6. Gradually add the flour mixture and milk, alternating between them, until just combined. Mix in vanilla extract.
  7. Pour the batter evenly into prepared cake pans.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Whip the softened butter, then gradually add powdered sugar and mix until smooth. Add heavy cream, vanilla, and salt; beat until fluffy.
  11. Place the first layer on a cake stand, spread a layer of frosting, then top with the second layer. Frost the top and sides.
  12. Decorate as desired and slice to serve.
