Ingredients:
- 1 pound (450g) ground beef (or ground Italian sausage)
- 1/2 pound (225g) bacon, chopped
- 1 medium yellow onion, chopped (about 1 cup)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (16 ounce/450g) can baked beans
- 1 (15 ounce/425g) can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 (15 ounce/425g) can butter beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 (15 ounce/425g) can Great Northern beans, drained and rinsed
- 1/2 cup (120ml) ketchup
- 1/4 cup (60ml) packed brown sugar, light or dark
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) yellow mustard
- 1 teaspoon (5ml) apple cider vinegar
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- In a large skillet or Dutch oven, brown ground beef (or sausage) over medium heat. Drain off any excess grease. Add the chopped bacon and cook until crispy.
- Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- In a large bowl, combine the cooked ground beef and bacon mixture, baked beans, kidney beans, butter beans, Great Northern beans, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, yellow mustard, and apple cider vinegar. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Pour the bean mixture into the prepared baking dish. Bake uncovered for 1 hour 30 minutes, or until bubbly and heated through.
- Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
