Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450 g) cippolini onions, peeled
  • 3 tbsp (45 ml) olive oil
  • 1 tsp (5 g) sea salt
  • 1 tsp (5 g) black pepper
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tbsp (15 g) brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp (2 g) garlic powder (optional)
  • Fresh herbs (e.g., thyme or rosemary) for garnish, optional

Instructions:

  1. Slice cippolini onions in half horizontally and season with olive oil, sea salt, and black pepper.
  2. Heat skillet over medium heat, add seasoned onions cut side down, and cook until golden brown and caramelized, about 10-15 minutes.
  3. In a small saucepan, combine balsamic vinegar, brown sugar, and garlic powder (if using). Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring frequently.
  4. Reduce heat and cook until thickened, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Drizzle the balsamic glaze over caramelized onions, garnish with fresh herbs if desired, and serve warm.
