Ingredients:

  • 2 cups strong brewed coffee (cooled to room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Whipped cream, for garnish (optional)
  • Cocoa powder or chocolate shavings, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Brew strong coffee using your preferred method and allow it to cool to room temperature.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, cocoa powder, and salt until well combined.
  3. Slowly add the cooled coffee and vanilla extract to the dry mixture and whisk until the sugar and cocoa are fully dissolved.
  4. Pour the mixture into a shallow baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  5. Place the dish in the freezer and freeze for 1 hour.
  6. After the first hour, take the dish out and use a fork to scrape the mixture into fluffy crystals. Return to the freezer.
  7. Repeat the scraping process every 30 minutes until the granita is fully frozen and flaky, approximately 2-3 hours total.
  8. Once frozen, scoop the granita into serving bowls or glasses. Garnish with whipped cream and additional cocoa powder or chocolate shavings, if desired.
