Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (15 ml)
- 1 large yellow onion, finely chopped (approx. 1 cup / 150g)
- 1 pound (450g) ground beef (80/20 blend for best flavor), crumbled
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt (5g)
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (2.5g)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (2.5g)
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder (1.25g)
- 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika (1.25g)
- 4 slices American cheese, chopped (or cheese of your choice, approx. 100g)
- 12 slider buns (sweet Hawaiian rolls work particularly well), split
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted (30 ml)
- Sesame seeds for topping (optional)
- Ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, and/or dill pickle slices for serving
Instructions:
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and caramelized (golden brown), about 10-15 minutes.
- Push the onions to one side of the skillet. Add the ground beef to the other side. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika. Cook, breaking up the beef with a spatula, until browned and cooked through. Drain off any excess grease.
- Combine the browned beef and caramelized onions. Reduce heat to low. Using a spatula or two, chop the mixture in the pan until finely ground, mimicking the chopped cheese process.
- Add the chopped American cheese to the beef mixture. Stir until the cheese is melted and gooey.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Arrange the slider bun bottoms on a baking sheet. Spoon the cheeseburger mixture evenly onto the slider buns.
- Brush the slider bun tops with melted butter and sprinkle with sesame seeds, if desired. Place the tops on the sliders. Bake for 5-7 minutes, or until the buns are lightly toasted and the filling is heated through.
- Serve the Chopped Cheeseburger Sliders warm with your favorite toppings like ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, and dill pickle slices.
