Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450 g) fresh string beans, trimmed and halved
  • 1 can (10.5 oz / 300 g) cream of mushroom soup
  • ¾ cup (180 ml) milk
  • 1 cup (150 g) French fried onions (plus extra for topping)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and freshly cracked pepper, to taste
  • ½ cup (75 g) grated cheddar cheese (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon (2 g) dried thyme or rosemary (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a saucepan, bring water to a boil. Add trimmed string beans and cook for 5 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup, milk, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
  4. Add the blanched string beans and 1 cup of French fried onions to the sauce. Mix until the beans are evenly coated.
  5. Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish.
  6. Sprinkle additional French fried onions (and optional cheese) on top of the casserole.
  7. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes, or until heated through and golden brown on top.
  8. Remove from the oven and let it sit for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!
