Ingredients:
- 6–8 fl oz (180–240 ml) Freshly Boiled Water
- 5 fl oz (45 ml) Quality Whiskey (Bourbon, Rye, or Irish)
- 1 Tbsp (20 g) Raw, Local Honey
- 5 fl oz (15 ml) Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice
- 1 Lemon Wheel or Wedge, for garnish
- 1 Cinnamon Stick or 3-4 Whole Cloves (Optional)
Instructions:
- Boil the Water: Bring water (240 ml) to a rolling boil. Let it sit for about 30 seconds to prevent scorching the delicate flavors.
- Pre-Warm the Mug: Pour a tiny splash of the hot water into your serving mug, swirl it around, then discard the water. This ensures the drink stays hot longer. Juice the lemon and measure the required amount.
- Combine the Sweeteners and Spirit: Place the measured honey and the whiskey into the pre-warmed mug.
- Start the Dissolution: Pour approximately 2 fl oz (60 ml) of the just-off-the-boil water over the honey and spirit mixture. Stir vigorously until the honey is completely dissolved and incorporated.
- Add Acid and Spice: Pour in the measured lemon juice. If using optional spices (cinnamon stick or cloves), drop them into the mug now.
- Top Up: Fill the remainder of the mug with the remaining hot water (4–6 fl oz / 120–180 ml), leaving a small gap at the top.
- Garnish and Serve: Place the lemon wheel on the rim or float it in the drink. Allow the mixture to steep for 1–2 minutes if using whole spices before serving immediately while piping hot.
