Ingredients:
- 2 cups (240g) Bisquick baking mix
- 1 cup (240ml) milk (whole or 2%)
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) melted unsalted butter (optional)
- Pinch of salt
- 4 cups (960ml) of your favourite stew, gravy, or broth
Instructions:
- Ensure your stew, gravy, or broth is already simmering gently in the saucepan or Dutch oven.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the Bisquick, milk, melted butter (if using), and salt. Stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix – a few lumps are fine.
- Using a spoon or small ice cream scoop, drop rounded spoonfuls of the dumpling batter directly into the simmering liquid. Space them evenly so they have room to expand.
- Cover the saucepan tightly with a lid. Reduce the heat to low and simmer undisturbed for 15-20 minutes, or until the dumplings are cooked through and no longer doughy in the center. The lid is essential for steaming them properly.
- To check if the dumplings are done, insert a toothpick into the center of one. If it comes out clean, they're ready. You can also cut one open to check the inside.
- Serve the bisquick dumplings hot, spooned over your stew or gravy.
