Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (optional for sweetness adjustment)
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for a kick)
  • 2 cups whole milk or milk alternative
  • Whipped cream and chocolate shavings for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together unsweetened cocoa powder, granulated sugar, powdered sugar (if using), salt, and cinnamon until thoroughly mixed.
  2. Gently fold in the chocolate chips.
  3. Stir in vanilla extract if desired and add cayenne pepper for a spicy twist if using.
  4. Transfer the hot cocoa mix into an airtight container and seal tightly, store in a cool, dry place for up to 3 months.
  5. To make hot cocoa, combine ¼ cup of the cocoa mix with 2 cups of hot milk or milk alternative in a saucepan and heat gently.
  6. Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings if desired.
