Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup brewed espresso or strong coffee
  • 1 cup milk, any type
  • Whipped cream or froth for garnish
  • Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder for dusting

Instructions:

  1. In a small saucepan, combine cocoa powder and sugar. Gradually whisk in water until smooth and well mixed.
  2. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the mixture is hot but not boiling.
  3. Prepare the espresso or strong coffee in your machine or coffee maker while the chocolate base heats.
  4. In the same or another small saucepan, heat the milk until steaming.
  5. Use a whisk or milk frother to froth the milk until it reaches a creamy texture.
  6. In each coffee mug, pour equal amounts of the chocolate base.
  7. Add brewed coffee to each mug, stirring gently to combine.
  8. Top with frothed milk, allowing it to layer beautifully.
  9. Garnish with whipped cream and chocolate shavings or cocoa powder, if desired.
