Ingredients:

  • 2 shots (60 ml) freshly brewed espresso or strong coffee
  • 2 tablespoons (30 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon (15 g) granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk (or any milk of your choice)
  • 1 oz (28 g) dark chocolate (70% cocoa) - chopped
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Whipped cream (optional)
  • Dark chocolate shavings (optional)
  • Cocoa powder for dusting (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare 2 shots of espresso using your chosen method. Set aside in a heatproof container.
  2. In a small saucepan, combine cocoa powder, sugar, and dark chocolate. Pour in about 2 tablespoons of hot water to help dissolve the cocoa and create a paste. Stir to combine until smooth.
  3. In the same saucepan, add milk and heat gently over medium-low heat. Stir occasionally until steaming but not boiling (about 2-3 minutes).
  4. Pour the brewed espresso into the saucepan with the foamed milk. Whisk in the chocolate mixture until fully combined and smooth. Add vanilla extract and stir well.
  5. Pour the mocha into heatproof mugs. Top with whipped cream and garnish with chocolate shavings and a dusting of cocoa, if desired.
