Ingredients:
- 2 sheets puff pastry (approx. 17.3 oz / 490g), thawed but cold
- 0.5 cup Nutella chocolate hazelnut spread (150g)
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon water
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon pomegranate arils (optional garnish)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Unroll one sheet of cold puff pastry onto the parchment paper.
- Spread 150g of warmed Nutella in an even layer over the pastry, leaving a 1/2 inch border.
- Place the second sheet of puff pastry directly on top of the first. Use a pizza cutter to cut the pastry into a large triangle shape (the Christmas tree).
- Cut horizontal strips 1 inch wide along both sides of the triangle, leaving a 1-inch center trunk intact.
- Twist each strip twice away from you, pressing the ends lightly into the parchment to secure.
- Use a star cookie cutter on the pastry scraps to create a topper and place it at the peak of the tree.
- Whisk the egg and water together to create an egg wash. Brush the entire surface of the tree and star.
- Bake for 15–20 minutes until the pastry is puffed and deep golden brown.
- Cool for 5 minutes, then dust with powdered sugar to create a snowy effect before serving.
