Ingredients:

  • 2 sheets puff pastry (approx. 17.3 oz / 490g), thawed but cold
  • 0.5 cup Nutella chocolate hazelnut spread (150g)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon pomegranate arils (optional garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll one sheet of cold puff pastry onto the parchment paper.
  3. Spread 150g of warmed Nutella in an even layer over the pastry, leaving a 1/2 inch border.
  4. Place the second sheet of puff pastry directly on top of the first. Use a pizza cutter to cut the pastry into a large triangle shape (the Christmas tree).
  5. Cut horizontal strips 1 inch wide along both sides of the triangle, leaving a 1-inch center trunk intact.
  6. Twist each strip twice away from you, pressing the ends lightly into the parchment to secure.
  7. Use a star cookie cutter on the pastry scraps to create a topper and place it at the peak of the tree.
  8. Whisk the egg and water together to create an egg wash. Brush the entire surface of the tree and star.
  9. Bake for 15–20 minutes until the pastry is puffed and deep golden brown.
  10. Cool for 5 minutes, then dust with powdered sugar to create a snowy effect before serving.
