Ingredients:
- 4 ripe bananas, peeled and sliced (approx. 400g)
- 1 tablespoon peanut butter (approx. 15g) (Optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (approx. 2.5 ml) (Optional)
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder (approx. 7g) (Optional)
- Pinch of cinnamon (Optional)
- 1/4 cup chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans, almonds) (approx. 30g) (Optional)
- 1/4 cup chocolate chips (approx. 40g) (Optional)
- 1/4 cup fresh or frozen berries (approx. 30g) (Optional)
Instructions:
- Peel, slice, and freeze the bananas in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet for at least 2 hours, or until solid. Ensure they are thoroughly frozen, this is vital for the correct texture.
- Place the frozen banana slices in the food processor or blender.
- Blend on high speed, scraping down the sides as needed. The bananas will initially crumble, then look grainy, and finally become smooth and creamy, like soft-serve ice cream. This can take a few minutes, patience is key!
- If desired, add any of the optional ingredients (peanut butter, vanilla, cocoa powder, cinnamon, nuts, chocolate chips, berries) during the blending process. Add sparingly to control the flavor.
- Serve immediately for a soft-serve consistency. For a firmer texture, transfer to a freezer-safe container and freeze for another 30-60 minutes. Don't freeze for too long, it will become rock solid!
