Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (450g) roast beef, thinly sliced
  • 4 slices of crusty bread (e.g., ciabatta or sourdough)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (30g), softened
  • 1 cup (240ml) beef gravy (store-bought or homemade)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • 2 tablespoons (30g) unsalted butter (for gravy)
  • 2 tablespoons (30g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups (480ml) beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions:

  1. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Whisk in flour and cook until golden, about 2 minutes.
  3. Gradually whisk in beef broth, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
  4. Bring to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. In a skillet, gently heat sliced roast beef over medium-low heat until warmed through.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Spread softened butter on one side of each bread slice.
  8. Toast in the skillet, buttered side down, until golden brown and crispy.
  9. Place a slice of toast on each plate and layer with a generous amount of roast beef.
  10. Spoon the warm gravy over the beef and garnish with chopped parsley.
  11. Serve immediately, keeping sandwiches warm and providing extra gravy on the side if desired.
