Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks or 227g) Unsalted Butter, softened
  • 3-4 cups (360-480g) Powdered Sugar (Icing Sugar), sifted
  • 2-4 tablespoons (30-60ml) Milk or Heavy Cream
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) Vanilla Extract
  • Pinch of Salt (about 1/8 teaspoon, or 0.6g)

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes). Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.
  2. With the mixer on low speed, gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  3. Add 2 tablespoons of milk (or heavy cream) and the vanilla extract. Mix on low speed until just combined.
  4. If the frosting is too thick, add more milk, one tablespoon at a time, until you reach your desired consistency. If it's too thin, add more powdered sugar, one tablespoon at a time.
  5. Add a pinch of salt.
  6. Increase the mixer speed to medium and beat for 1-2 minutes until the frosting is light and fluffy. Be careful not to overbeat.
  7. For a firmer frosting, chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before using.
