Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (15ml)
- 1 medium onion, chopped (approx. 1 cup) (120g)
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped (approx. 1 cup) (120g)
- 1.5 pounds ground beef (680g)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder (5ml)
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (2.5ml)
- 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce (425g)
- 1/4 cup ketchup (60ml)
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar (packed) (30g)
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard (15ml)
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (15ml)
- Salt to taste
- 6 hamburger buns
Instructions:
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and green bell pepper, and sauté until softened.
- Add ground beef to the skillet. Cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and no longer pink. Drain off any excess grease.
- Sprinkle the beef with garlic powder and black pepper. Stir to combine.
- Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, yellow mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt to taste.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, for at least 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, to allow the flavors to meld.
- Spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture onto hamburger buns and serve immediately.
