Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 small green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 6 hamburger buns
  • Optional: sliced pickles, shredded cheese, or sliced jalapeños

Instructions:

  1. Brown ground beef or turkey in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it apart with a spatula until no longer pink. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  2. Add chopped onion, bell pepper, and garlic to the skillet. Sauté until onion is translucent (4-5 minutes).
  3. In a slow cooker, combine the browned meat mixture with ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 6 hours or on high for 3 hours, stirring occasionally if possible.
  5. Once cooked, taste, and adjust seasoning if necessary. Serve hot on buns, adding optional toppings as desired.
