Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground beef or turkey
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 small green bell pepper, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 6 hamburger buns
- Optional: sliced pickles, shredded cheese, or sliced jalapeños
Instructions:
- Brown ground beef or turkey in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it apart with a spatula until no longer pink. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Add chopped onion, bell pepper, and garlic to the skillet. Sauté until onion is translucent (4-5 minutes).
- In a slow cooker, combine the browned meat mixture with ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, salt, and pepper.
- Cover and cook on low for 6 hours or on high for 3 hours, stirring occasionally if possible.
- Once cooked, taste, and adjust seasoning if necessary. Serve hot on buns, adding optional toppings as desired.
