Ingredients:
- large sweet potatoes (about 1.5 lbs total)
- Tablespoons olive oil
- ½ teaspoons chipotle chili powder
- teaspoon smoked paprika
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- teaspoon packed brown sugar
- ¾ teaspoon fine sea salt
- ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Instructions:
- Peel the sweet potatoes. Cut them lengthwise into planks, then stack and slice uniformly into ¼-inch (about 6mm) thick fries. Consistency is key for even cooking.
- Place the cut fries in a colander. Rinse thoroughly under cold water until the water runs clear. Pat the fries completely dry using paper towels or a clean tea towel. This is crucial for crispiness.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the olive oil, chipotle powder, smoked paprika, garlic powder, brown sugar, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Add the dried sweet potato fries to the bowl. Toss thoroughly until every fry is lightly and evenly coated in the spice mixture.
- Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (195°C).
- Arrange the seasoned fries in a single layer inside the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd. Cook for 10 minutes.
- Pull the basket out, give it a good shake to flip the fries, and return to cook for an additional 8–12 minutes, checking frequently after the 16-minute mark until they are tender inside and nicely browned/crisp outside.
- Remove cooked fries and transfer to a serving platter. Repeat the cooking process with any remaining fries, ensuring they are cooked in a single layer.
