Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) air-dry clay or stoneware clay
  • Optional: Food-safe glazing materials
  • Water (for smoothing)
  • Optional: Decorative elements (stamps, textures, colored slips)

Instructions:

  1. Soften the clay by kneading and roll out to approximately 1/4 inch (0.6 cm) thick.
  2. Cut out a circle or oval shape from the rolled clay using a knife or clay cutter and gently curve the edges to form a shallow dish.
  3. Use stamps to create patterns in the clay and smooth any rough edges with a sponge or soft cloth.
  4. Allow the spoon rest to dry at room temperature for at least 24 hours.
  5. Place the dried piece in a kiln and fire according to your clay guidelines, following safety protocols.
  6. Once fired and cooled, apply food-safe glaze if desired and fire again to set the glaze.
  7. Allow the glaze to cool completely before use, inspecting for imperfections and smoothing out if necessary.
