Ingredients:
- 1.5 lbs ground beef (85/15 blend)
- 6 oz stove top stuffing mix
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1 tbsp brown sugar, packed
- 1 tsp yellow mustard
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
Instructions:
- Pour the 1 cup beef broth over the 6 oz stuffing mix in a large bowl. Let it sit for 3 to 5 minutes until the liquid is fully absorbed.
- Incorporate the aromatics. Whisk the beaten egg, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder together, then pour over the stuffing.
- Add the 1.5 lbs ground beef to the bowl. Mix gently with your hands until just combined. Overworking the meat will result in a tough, rubbery texture.
- Shape the mixture into 6 individual oval patties, roughly 1 inch thick. Ensure they are uniform for even cooking.
- Heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat until the oil shimmers and swirls easily.
- Place the patties in the pan. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes until a deep brown crust forms.
- Flip carefully. Use a wide spatula to turn the loaves over. Be gentle to avoid breaking the structural bond.
- Lower the heat to medium low and cover the pan with a lid. Cook for 8 to 10 minutes until the center is no longer pink.
- Whisk the glaze. In a small bowl, combine the ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard.
- Brush the glaze over the top of each loaf. Cook uncovered for 2 more minutes until the glaze is tacky and glossy.
