Ingredients:

  • 1.5 lbs ground beef (85/15 blend)
  • 6 oz stove top stuffing mix
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions:

  1. Pour the 1 cup beef broth over the 6 oz stuffing mix in a large bowl. Let it sit for 3 to 5 minutes until the liquid is fully absorbed.
  2. Incorporate the aromatics. Whisk the beaten egg, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder together, then pour over the stuffing.
  3. Add the 1.5 lbs ground beef to the bowl. Mix gently with your hands until just combined. Overworking the meat will result in a tough, rubbery texture.
  4. Shape the mixture into 6 individual oval patties, roughly 1 inch thick. Ensure they are uniform for even cooking.
  5. Heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat until the oil shimmers and swirls easily.
  6. Place the patties in the pan. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes until a deep brown crust forms.
  7. Flip carefully. Use a wide spatula to turn the loaves over. Be gentle to avoid breaking the structural bond.
  8. Lower the heat to medium low and cover the pan with a lid. Cook for 8 to 10 minutes until the center is no longer pink.
  9. Whisk the glaze. In a small bowl, combine the ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard.
  10. Brush the glaze over the top of each loaf. Cook uncovered for 2 more minutes until the glaze is tacky and glossy.
