Ingredients:
- 1 slice of bread (preferably thick-cut white or sourdough)
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 large egg
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Use a cookie cutter, knife, or glass to cut a circle out of the center of the bread slice. Reserve the cutout circle.
- Melt the butter in the skillet over medium heat.
- Place the bread slice and the cutout circle into the skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes per side, or until golden brown.
- Crack the egg into the hole in the bread, making 'eggs in a basket'.
- Cook for 2-4 minutes, or until the egg white is set and the yolk is cooked to your liking. Season with salt and pepper.
- Carefully remove the egg in a basket and the toasted bread circle from the skillet and serve immediately.
