Ingredients:

  • 1 all-beef frankfurter (US: 5-6 oz / Metric: 140-170g)
  • 1 poppy seed hot dog bun (fresh, steamed is best)
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard (classic ballpark style)
  • 1 tablespoon sweet green relish (neon green, Chicago-style, is ideal)
  • 1 dill pickle spear (large)
  • 2 tomato wedges (firm, ripe)
  • 1/4 cup chopped white onion (fresh)
  • 2 sport peppers (pickled, small, and spicy)
  • 1 dash celery salt

Instructions:

  1. Steam or warm the poppy seed bun until soft and pliable.
  2. Steam the frankfurter in a steamer basket over simmering water until heated through (about 3-5 minutes). Alternatively, poach in simmering water.
  3. Place the cooked frankfurter in the steamed bun.
  4. Squeeze a line of yellow mustard down one side of the frankfurter and spoon sweet green relish down the other.
  5. Place the dill pickle spear along one side of the frankfurter. Add the tomato wedges on the opposite side of the pickle.
  6. Sprinkle the chopped white onion over the frankfurter. Add the sport peppers. Finish with a generous dash of celery salt.
  7. Enjoy your authentic chicago hot dog recipe while it's hot!
