Ingredients:
- 1 pound (450g) mozzarella cheese, cut into sticks
- 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
- 2 cups (160g) panko breadcrumbs
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Marinara sauce, for dipping (optional)
Instructions:
- Cut the mozzarella into uniform sticks. Place the mozzarella sticks on a plate lined with parchment paper and freeze for 30 minutes.
- In separate shallow dishes, place the flour, beaten eggs, and panko breadcrumbs mixed with Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Dredge each mozzarella stick in flour, shaking off excess. Dip into the beaten egg, allowing excess to drip off. Then, coat thoroughly with the panko mixture, pressing gently to adhere. Repeat the breading process for a double coating.
- In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully place a few mozzarella sticks at a time into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 1-2 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the mozzarella sticks with a slotted spoon or spider and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve immediately with warm marinara sauce for dipping.
