Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (30 ml)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (around 1 teaspoon minced)
  • 1 (28 ounce/794g) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (15 ounce/425g) can tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes, or until fragrant.
  2. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes (if using), sugar, salt, and pepper.
  3. Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. After simmering, taste the homemade pizza sauce recipe and adjust seasonings as needed. Add more salt, pepper, sugar, or red pepper flakes to your liking.
  5. Let the sauce cool slightly before using it on your pizza. Store leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
