Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) chili powder (American style)
- 1 1/2 teaspoons (7.5 ml) ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) sea salt
- 1/4 teaspoon (1.25 ml) black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon (1.25 ml) cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
- 1/4 teaspoon (1.25 ml) sugar (optional, balances flavors)
Instructions:
- In a small mixing bowl, add chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, salt, pepper, cayenne pepper (if using), and sugar (if using).
- Whisk all ingredients together until well combined and there are no visible clumps.
- Taste a small amount of the seasoning and adjust the ingredients to your preference. Add more chili powder for a deeper flavour, cayenne for more heat, or salt to taste.
- Transfer the taco seasoning to an airtight container or jar. Store in a cool, dark place for up to 6 months.
