Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) chili powder (American style)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons (7.5 ml) ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1.25 ml) black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1.25 ml) cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1.25 ml) sugar (optional, balances flavors)

Instructions:

  1. In a small mixing bowl, add chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, salt, pepper, cayenne pepper (if using), and sugar (if using).
  2. Whisk all ingredients together until well combined and there are no visible clumps.
  3. Taste a small amount of the seasoning and adjust the ingredients to your preference. Add more chili powder for a deeper flavour, cayenne for more heat, or salt to taste.
  4. Transfer the taco seasoning to an airtight container or jar. Store in a cool, dark place for up to 6 months.
