Ingredients:

  • 2 oz (60 ml) tequila blanco (good quality)
  • 1/2 oz (15 ml) fresh lime juice (about 1/2 lime)
  • 1/2 oz (15 ml) agave nectar (or 1/2 oz simple syrup)
  • 3 oz (90 ml) grapefruit soda (Jarritos, Squirt, or similar) — grapefruit soda method
  • Pinch coarse salt (for rim)
  • Ice (cuber or crushed)
  • Garnish: 1 lime wheel or grapefruit wedge and optional grapefruit peel
  • 2 oz (60 ml) tequila blanco — fresh grapefruit + soda method
  • 1 oz (30 ml) fresh ruby grapefruit juice (about 1/2 medium grapefruit) — fresh method
  • 1/2 oz (15 ml) fresh lime juice — fresh method
  • 2–3 oz (60–90 ml) chilled club soda (to top and add effervescence) — fresh method
  • Pitcher (about 4 servings) — 8 oz (240 ml) tequila blanco
  • Pitcher (about 4 servings) — 4 oz (120 ml) fresh ruby grapefruit juice
  • Pitcher (about 4 servings) — 2 oz (60 ml) fresh lime juice
  • Pitcher (about 4 servings) — 2 oz (60 ml) agave nectar or simple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • Pitcher (about 4 servings) — 8–12 oz (240–360 ml) chilled club soda (add to taste / fizz)
  • Salt for rimming, ice, and garnish slices

Instructions:

  1. Prep the glass: rub a lime wedge around the rim, dip the rim in coarse salt on a small plate, then fill the glass with ice and set aside.
  2. Juice and measure: juice lime(s) and grapefruit if using fresh; strain through a fine mesh strainer if you prefer no pulp.
  3. Build (grapefruit soda method - quickest): add tequila, lime juice, and agave directly into the ice-filled glass; stir gently to combine, top with grapefruit soda, garnish and serve. Do not shake the soda.
  4. Build (fresh grapefruit + soda method): add tequila, lime juice, agave, and fresh grapefruit juice to the ice-filled glass, stir gently, then top with chilled club soda and garnish.
  5. Shake (for more chill and integration): in a shaker with ice combine tequila, grapefruit juice (if using), lime juice, and agave; shake 8–10 seconds until chilled, strain into the prepared glass over fresh ice, top with soda, and garnish.
  6. Finish and garnish: add a lime wheel or grapefruit wedge and optionally express a grapefruit peel over the top for aromatics; taste and adjust sweetness or acidity as needed.
  7. Pitcher method: combine tequila, grapefruit juice, lime juice, and agave in a pitcher; chill, then add chilled club soda to taste just before serving and serve over ice with salted rims and garnish slices.
