Ingredients:

  • 1 (15 oz) can of tomato sauce (425 g)
  • 1 (6 oz) can of tomato paste (170 g)
  • ¼ cup (60 ml) apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons (30 g) brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon (15 g) chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon (3 g) smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon (1 g) cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ½ teaspoon (2 g) dried oregano (optional)
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a medium saucepan, mix together the tomato sauce, tomato paste, apple cider vinegar, and brown sugar.
  2. Stir in the chili powder, cumin, onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper.
  3. Add salt and pepper to taste, and stir until fully combined.
  4. Heat the mixture over medium heat until it begins to simmer, approximately 5 minutes.
  5. Taste the sauce, adjusting spices or sweetness as necessary.
  6. Remove from heat and let cool slightly before transferring to an airtight container.
  7. Refrigerate for up to one week, or freeze for longer storage.
