  • 2 teaspoons (10 ml) sesame oil
  • 1-2 cloves garlic, minced (about 1 teaspoon)
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) grated fresh ginger or ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) honey or maple syrup (optional)
  • A pinch of crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, and sesame oil.
  2. Stir in minced garlic and grated ginger, adjusting to your taste.
  3. Sample the mixture and adjust sweetness with honey or add heat with red pepper flakes, if desired.
  4. Transfer marinade to an airtight container or zip-top bag with your chosen protein or veggies.
  5. Let marinate for at least 30 minutes in the fridge (up to 24 hours for deeper flavor).
  6. Grill or broil marinated ingredients until cooked through, ensuring meats reach safe internal temperatures.
