Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (226 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups (400 g) granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 3 cups (360 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • Fresh berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries)
  • Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease the baking pan and optionally line the bottom with parchment paper.
  3. In a mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar on medium speed until light and fluffy (about 5 minutes).
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients.
  7. Stir in the vanilla extract until just combined.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  9. Bake in preheated oven for 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  10. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
