Ingredients:
- 1 pound (450g) uncooked breakfast sausage
- 8 ounces (225g) cream cheese, softened
- 2 cups (240g) sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened cream cheese and sausage until evenly combined.
- Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until well distributed.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, garlic powder, and black pepper.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Don't overmix! If using, stir in the chopped green onions.
- Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes to help firm up the dough.
- Roll the dough into 1-inch balls.
- Arrange the sausage balls on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between them.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through. The internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C).
- Let the sausage balls cool slightly on the baking sheet before serving.
