Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (450g) uncooked breakfast sausage
  • 8 ounces (225g) cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups (240g) sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened cream cheese and sausage until evenly combined.
  3. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until well distributed.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, garlic powder, and black pepper.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Don't overmix! If using, stir in the chopped green onions.
  6. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes to help firm up the dough.
  7. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls.
  8. Arrange the sausage balls on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between them.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through. The internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C).
  10. Let the sausage balls cool slightly on the baking sheet before serving.
