Ingredients:

  • 2 (14.5 oz / 411g) cans cut green beans, drained and rinsed
  • 4 slices bacon, diced
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped (approx. 1/2 cup)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (approx. 1 tsp)
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar (50g)
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar (15 ml)
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (2.5 ml)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper (1.25 ml)
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Sauté diced bacon in the skillet over medium heat until crispy. Remove bacon with a slotted spoon, reserving bacon fat in the skillet. Set bacon aside.
  2. Add chopped onion to the bacon fat in the skillet. Sauté until softened and translucent. Add minced garlic and cook until fragrant.
  3. Add drained and rinsed green beans, brown sugar, balsamic vinegar, smoked paprika, and pepper to the skillet.
  4. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until green beans are tender and flavorful.
  5. Taste and adjust salt and pepper as needed. Stir in the reserved crispy bacon. Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired. Serve hot.
