Ingredients:
- 2 (14.5 oz / 411g) cans cut green beans, drained and rinsed
- 4 slices bacon, diced
- 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped (approx. 1/2 cup)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced (approx. 1 tsp)
- 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar (50g)
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar (15 ml)
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (2.5 ml)
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper (1.25 ml)
- Salt to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions:
- Sauté diced bacon in the skillet over medium heat until crispy. Remove bacon with a slotted spoon, reserving bacon fat in the skillet. Set bacon aside.
- Add chopped onion to the bacon fat in the skillet. Sauté until softened and translucent. Add minced garlic and cook until fragrant.
- Add drained and rinsed green beans, brown sugar, balsamic vinegar, smoked paprika, and pepper to the skillet.
- Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until green beans are tender and flavorful.
- Taste and adjust salt and pepper as needed. Stir in the reserved crispy bacon. Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired. Serve hot.
