- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar, packed
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon molasses
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions:
- Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Add tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, molasses, smoked paprika, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and salt to the saucepan.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed.
- Remove from heat and let cool completely. Transfer to an airtight container or jar and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
