Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions:

  1. Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  2. Add tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, molasses, smoked paprika, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and salt to the saucepan.
  3. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed.
  4. Remove from heat and let cool completely. Transfer to an airtight container or jar and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
