Ingredients:
- 6 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix), peeled, cored, and sliced (approx. 700g/25oz)
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice (30ml)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (50g/1.75oz)
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (16g/0.6oz)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (5ml)
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (1.25ml)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces (28g/1oz)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (120g/4.2oz)
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar (100g/3.5oz)
- 1/2 cup almond flour (50g/1.75oz)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (2.5ml)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt (1.25ml)
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces (113g/4oz)
- 1/4 cup slivered almonds, for garnish (25g/.8oz) (optional)
Instructions:
- Peel, core, and slice the apples. Toss with lemon juice, sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large bowl. Dot with butter pieces.
- In a separate bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, almond flour, cinnamon, and salt. Cut in cold butter using a pastry blender, fork, or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Pour the apple mixture into the baking dish. Sprinkle the almond crumble evenly over the apples. If using, sprinkle slivered almonds on top.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C/Gas Mark 5) for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbling.
- Let cool slightly before serving. This oat free apple crisp is best served warm.
