Ingredients:

  • 6 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix), peeled, cored, and sliced (approx. 700g/25oz)
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice (30ml)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (50g/1.75oz)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (16g/0.6oz)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (5ml)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (1.25ml)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces (28g/1oz)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (120g/4.2oz)
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar (100g/3.5oz)
  • 1/2 cup almond flour (50g/1.75oz)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (2.5ml)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (1.25ml)
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces (113g/4oz)
  • 1/4 cup slivered almonds, for garnish (25g/.8oz) (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Peel, core, and slice the apples. Toss with lemon juice, sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large bowl. Dot with butter pieces.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, almond flour, cinnamon, and salt. Cut in cold butter using a pastry blender, fork, or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Pour the apple mixture into the baking dish. Sprinkle the almond crumble evenly over the apples. If using, sprinkle slivered almonds on top.
  4. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C/Gas Mark 5) for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbling.
  5. Let cool slightly before serving. This oat free apple crisp is best served warm.
